In 2012, Jacob Mahon and his brother, Owen, started performing original music and Dylan covers in small bars around Longville, Minnesota as “Hog Rooster”. The boys progressed in the area, and eventually moved to Duluth in the fall of 2016.
Drawing heavy influence from the likes of Charlie Parr and Kyle Ollah, Jacob set out to performing his own original songs and traditional folk music as a solo artist upon arrival in Duluth. In that September of 2016 Jacob ended up winning the “Beaner’s Central One Week Live Songwriting Competition” which kick started a relationship with a few venues around town.
In the following winter and early spring of 2017, Jacob was lucky enough to share stages with Charlie, Kyle, and many other Duluthian greats including Gaelynn Lea, and Jeffrey James O’laughlin. Later that spring Jacob received first place at the 2017 Duluth Dylan Fest Songwriters Competition. has been having a ball singing to all sorts of good folks among the Midwest.
